When should Open Access be provided?
Each beneficiary must ensure open access to the 
deposited publication — via the repository — at 
the latest: (i) on publication, if an electronic version 
is available for free via the publisher, or (ii) within 
six months of publication (twelve months for 
publications in the social sciences and humanities) 
in any other case.
All EC Horizon 2020 beneficiaries must deposit 
their peer-reviewed publications to ensure Open 
Access.
What to deposit?
A machine-readable electronic copy of the 
published version OR a final peer-reviewed 
manuscript accepted for publication.
Where to deposit?
Researchers should deposit in a repository 
for scientific publications of their choice.

What is the Open Research Data Pilot?
The Open Research Data Pilot aims to make the 
research data generated by selected Horizon 
2020 projects as freely accessible as possible 
(with exceptions where privacy, security and 
ethical concerns exist). 
Which projects are part of the Open Data 
Pilot?
If your project stems from one the seven selected 
Horizon 2020 areas, you are automatically part 
of the pilot - although there are flexible opt-out 
possiblities.  Projects in other areas are welcome 
to opt-in. See www.openaire.eu/opendatapilot.
What is a Data Management Plan (DMP)?
Participating projects should create a data 
management plan within  the first six months of 
the project. Your institution may offer Research  
Data Management support to help you plan, or 
see here: www.openaire.eu/opendatapilot-dmp
Where do I deposit my data?
You should select a data repository that will 
preserve your data, metadata, and offer support 
guidelines for data standards and licensing.

www.zenodo.org.
The Open Research Data Pilot in H2020
Zenodo (www.zenodo.org) is a catch-all repository 
that enables researchers, scientists, EU projects and 
institutions to:
•Share research results in a wide variety of formats 
including text, spreadsheets, audio, video, and images 
across all fields of science.
•Display their research results and get credited by 
making the research results citable and integrating 
them into existing reporting lines to funding agencies 
like the European Commission.
•Easily access and reuse shared research results.
•Integrate their research outputs with the OpenAIRE 
portal.
