Scraping for Journalism: A Guide for Collecting Data

The authors collected data for an application that scrapes websites and that lets readers search company payments to doctors. In this article and 'guide to guides', they describe how they did it. They claim that most of the techniques are within the ability of the moderately experienced programmer and may be helpful to journalists who are trying to learn programming and already know the basics. It may also be relevant for experienced programmers and complete novices who plan to learn how to code.
