The Open Science training handbook - FOSTER Book Sprint

Book Sprint 12-16 February 2018

5 days in February 2018: A group of 14 authors will come together at the TIB in Hannover and create an open living handbook on Open Science training. Professionals from various areas of expertise will collect and share their experiences on multiplying Open Science.

High quality trainings are fundamental when aiming at a cultural change towards the implementation of Open Science principles. Teaching resources can be a great support for Open Science instructors and trainers. The Open Science training handbook will be a key resource and a first step towards developing Open Access and Open Science curricula and pedagogies. Supporting and connecting an emerging Open Science community that wishes to pass on their knowledge as multipliers, the handbook will enrich training activities and unlock their full potential.

Sharing their experience and skills of imparting Open Science principles, the experts will produce an open knowledge and educational resource oriented to practical teaching. In other words, the focus of the new handbook will not lie on spreading the idea of Open Science, but on “how to” spread the idea of Open Science most effectively. The form of a book sprint will initiate the collaborative writing process, maximise creativity and innovation, and ensure the production of a finished book in only a few days.

Bringing together methods, techniques and practices, the handbook aims at supporting educators of Open Science. The result will be a helpful guide on how to forward knowledge on Open Science principles to our networks, institutions, colleagues and students. It will instruct and inspire trainers how to create high quality and engaging trainings. Addressing challenges and giving solutions it will strengthen the community of Open Science trainers who are educating, informing and inspiring themselves.

The new training resource will be accessible online. Comments and other contributions will be possible after the Book Sprint.
